Creative Space in Mexico

The association was created as a citizen initiative of businessmen and professionals who, aware of the social risk in many rural communities inMexico, especially young people, has proposed the creation of a community cultural center in Villa deCanalejas, a small town belonging to the municipality of Jilotepec, State of Mexico, in order to train people of all ages (with or without a school degree) in various trades related to artisan design, graphics and music, among other disciplines, not only as an alternative for recreation, culture and promotion of new audiences, but also as a platform for cooperative production to improve the living conditions of the project’s beneficiaries and their families. The project is strategically located in the center of three of the landmarks in Canalejas - the Iglesia de La Piedrita, the Centro de la Villa and the Lienzo Charro; (the spiritual, administrative and entertainment centers) The understanding of the site starts from the analysis of the three physical components of the area: The nodes and road axes that express the connectivity structure; the urban blocks that show the intensity of activity and the possible urban programs and, finally, the distribution of the landscape. The busiest and most developed areas are located along the two main mobility axes. Vegetation and landscape, on the contrary, intensify as they move away from urban development axes. The particularity of having fronts and accesses to two important streets, gives the plot the capacity to act as a possible passage and connector for various areas of the Villa. A 50,000 sqm plot offers the opportunity to build a cultural and social artistic hub, were local youth can learn arts and crafts directly from members of their own community.
