The Materials Book

387 This book is inspired by the 6th LafargeHolcim Forum for Sustainable Construction, which was dedicated to the theme of “Re-materializing Construction” and held at the American University in Cairo in 2019. The forum created an interdisciplinary platform for exchanging ideas and information for 350 experts from 55 countries —with keynote speeches, workshops, and site visits focused on strategies to reduce consumption throughout the material cycle from extraction to processing, transport, installation, maintenance, and removal. The series of conferences on the topic of sustainable construction brings together specialists of all generations from architecture, engineering, urban planning, materials science, construction technology, and related fields to exchange information on creating a built environment that advances sustainable development. The triennial forum is an initiative of the LafargeHolcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction based in Zurich, Switzerland. The foundation also conducts the LafargeHolcim Awards— the world’s most significant competition for sustainable design. Every three years, the competition seeks leading projects of professionals as well as bold ideas from the next generation that combine sustainable construction solutions with architectural excellence. The LafargeHolcim Foundation promotes sustainability throughout building and construction and is sponsored by LafargeHolcim and its operational companies in around eighty countries. LafargeHolcim is the global leader in building materials and solutions, pursuing innovation along the entire value chain from processes to products, from quarry to worksite. Donor Acknowledgment
