Cover the Balcony: Textile and metal awnings can provide privacy and insulation Awnings are typically used to protect glass facades from the sun and inclement weather. But placing an awning at the outer perimeter of a balcony can improve insulation while extending living space during warmer months. Raising the shades brings light and fresh air into the apartment. Lowering them can create a thermal buffer for the home and increase privacy.
