The Materials Book

From Waste to Walls: A Swiss project uncovers the beauty of rubble Construction debris doesn’t always have to be ugly. At this Swiss site, broken concrete chunks from nearby teardowns were combined with damaged tiles, bricks, and pavement stones donated by a local landscaper to build walls around a shelter for garbage containers. The rubble was mixed with modest amounts of fresh concrete as binder, and the formworks were removed after half a day so the surface could be washed down to let the beauty of the once- discarded materials show through. Example: Reclaimed demolition debris, seen in House of Trash, Rotkreuz, Switzerland Contributed by: AMA, Switzerland 360
